Bringing Data Together for Better Growing
Brabant Plant, a plant nursery in Haarsteeg, Netherlands, is known for growing vegetable young plants like tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, as well as ornamental plants. With 27 departments managing different crops and stages of production, their processes are complex and data-heavy. To simplify their work and unlock new insights, Brabant Plant partnered with Mprise Agriware to combine data from multiple sources using Agriware 365 Analytics.
The Challenge: Too Much Disconnected Data
“Every plant we grow has a specific ‘recipe’ for temperature, light, and care,” explains Marvin Verkuijlen, a crop researcher at Brabant Plant. “Plants also move through several locations during their growing process. We had a lot of data from climate systems, plant measurements, and Agriware’s lot tracking, but it was scattered across different systems. Manually combining this information was time-consuming, error-prone, and frustrating.”
The Solution: A Unified Data System
With Agriware 365 Analytics, Brabant Plant is combining data from different systems into one platform. This gives them a clear, real-time view of their operations, allowing them to make better decisions.
Phase 1: Connecting Lot and Climate Data
The first step was linking Agriware ERP data with climate information from their greenhouse systems. “Before, we manually merged lot and climate data, which was inefficient,” Marvin shares. “Now it’s automated, saving us time and ensuring accuracy.”
Phase 2: Adding Plant Assessments
Next, the team is integrating plant health assessments and crop observations. “We’ll soon be able to track decisions made during the growing process and tie them to results,” Marvin says. “This creates a detailed ‘rotated recipe’ for each batch, showing how climate conditions and care impact growth.”
What’s Changing? Smarter Workflows and Decisions
- Faster, Better Decisions: Growers can now quickly see key data, like climate conditions and plant health, in one place.
- Improved Quality Tracking: By connecting decisions to outcomes, Brabant Plant is building a deeper understanding of what works best for each crop.
- Efficiency Gains: Automated processes free up time, letting growers focus on plants instead of paperwork.
Exciting Possibilities for the Future
Marvin is optimistic about what’s next: “Now that we’ve organized data by batch, we can start doing cost calculations, tracking labor and energy, and even adding customer feedback. With just a click, we’ll see planned vs. actual costs or other insights. The potential is huge.”
The amount of data is only going to get bigger and bigger. With the data in order at the batch level, the possibilities will soon be countless.
How Employees Are Adapting
“We’ve always valued data, but now it’s easier to use,” Marvin explains. “Growers can visualize numbers quickly and make decisions based on data instead of guesswork. We’ve taken things step by step, starting with what’s most important, and employees are excited about the changes.”
A Data-Driven Future
“Working with data is the future for plant nurseries,” Marvin concludes. “Before, collecting and analyzing all this information was a huge hassle. Now, with Agriware 365 Analytics, we’re not only managing our data better but learning how to improve everything we do—from climate control to plant care. It’s been a game-changer.”
