- Size: 540+ acres of greenhouses
- Scope of business: production, distribution of young plants, cut flowers and pot plants in both domestic and export markets.
"Flower your life" is the slogan of Dalat Hasfarm, and it captures their mission perfectly. Based in Da Lat, Vietnam—known as the "City of Eternal Spring"—Dalat Hasfarm produces a variety of cut flowers, potted plants, and young plants, supplying both domestic and international markets. Established in 1994, the company now operates on a massive scale with 220 hectares of greenhouses, over 4,500 employees, and sister companies in Japan, China, and Indonesia, making it the largest flower producer in the Asia-Pacific region. Each year, the company produces up to 200 million flower stems and 250 million cuttings for markets worldwide.
Innovation as a Growth Strategy
Innovation is at the heart of Dalat Hasfarm’s success. “In Vietnam, Dalat Hasfarm has a chain of flower shops, flower booths in more than 200 supermarkets, and four wholesale distribution centers in the major cities,” says Aad Gordijn, CEO of Hasfarm Holdings. “Innovation and the introduction of new varieties are key to our success, and we test over 500 new varieties a year from well-known breeders around the world.”
Their commitment to high-tech, sustainable growing methods ensures excellent flower quality and vase life. With a growing Asian flower market, Dalat Hasfarm remains focused on scaling its operations, supported by modern technology.
The Shift to Agriware 365
By 2019, Dalat Hasfarm faced challenges typical of a rapidly growing operation. Working on standard Microsoft ERP and relying on Excel sheets and outdated planning tools, they needed a unified platform which match their operations and streamline production, improve planning accuracy, and prepare for future growth.
“We knocked on Agriware's door because our existing planning tools were outdated, and some processes were still carried out with Excel. We wanted to combine all our planning activities into one flexible horticulture platform,” says Aad.
How Agriware 365 Helps
Dalat Hasfarm adopted Agriware 365, an integrated ERP system designed specifically for horticulture and built on Microsoft Dynamics. Key benefits include:
- Backward Planning: “The most important thing is 'backward planning,'” Aad explains. “We start with the sales forecast, and Agriware helps us calculate the space requirements for mother plants, planting dates of cut flowers and potted plants, space allocation, and harvest dates.” This ensures production aligns precisely with market demand.
- Real-Time Inventory Updates: Agriware 365 provides instant access to inventory and production performance data, enabling Dalat Hasfarm to adapt quickly and maintain efficiency.
- Space and Labor Optimization: Advanced tools for greenhouse space planning and labor scheduling ensure smooth operations and minimal resource waste.
Smooth Implementation
Transitioning to a new system can be challenging, but Dalat Hasfarm’s familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics eased the process. “We were already using Microsoft Dynamics as our ERP system, and Agriware is built on the same platform. That gave us a big advantage,” Aad notes. Customized training sessions made the system user-friendly and easy for employees to adopt.
Looking to the Future
Despite challenges like the pandemic, which required remote support during implementation, Dalat Hasfarm successfully integrated Agriware 365 into their operations. “We started the project in July 2019, and because of the pandemic, the support had to be done online,” Aad recalls. “This, and the time differences, made it more challenging, but in the end, it worked out well.”
Aad is optimistic about the future: “Flower consumption in Asia will continue to grow, and so will we. A professional horticulture planning software like Agriware 365 will help our future expansion.”
